— PROJECT NAME
Topeka Municipal Building Renovation
Built in the late 1930's in the Art Deco style, this building, connected to the Topeka Performing Arts Center, is home to several city departments. The Historic Preservation and Interiors teams in Topeka and Lawrence, KS completed a historic analysis of the building, programmed the departments and spaces, and took the project through the Design Development phase. The goal of the project was to take a respectful approach to the history of the building while developing a modern and comfortable office where spaces are shared and utilized within the building, while creating a community connection downtown to foster success through community, history, and pride.
As one of two designers on this project, we worked extensively with city department leaders to determine current and future space needs and compiled the outcomes into a DD set of documents. An extensive set of renderings supplemented the historic analysis and design documents for a City Council meeting.
